Home Skincare Routines

Skin Routine Blog post

Hi and thanks for visiting my blog to read the latest I want to share with you.

Today, it’s all about your home skincare routine and how important it is to be CONSISTENT with it and use good quality ACTIVE cosmeceuticals.

I want to be frank with you all; even though I have my own skin rejuvenation business, THE MOST important part of your skincare routine is what you do at home every day. A treatment in a salon is great for a relaxing pick-me-up or a one-off peel/ or to give your skin a glow, but honestly, the BEST thing you can do for your skin is look after it and nourish it on a day to day basis.

What I mean by this is that you need to have your AM and PM routines sorted and stick to them. Seriously, throw out all those rubbish supermarket products that you sneak into the trolley with the groceries and think about investing in some quality products prescribed for your particular skin type and concerns at a well respected salon. And, if you’re using wipes to remove your makeup, ohhhemmmmmgeee throw them out stat.

This is the one thing I truly wish I’d paid more attention to in my youth. The Chanel and Louis Vuitton handbags are all very well, but if you’re not spending anywhere near that on your precious skin, I mean, you have your skin for the rest of your life. You need to treat it with the utmost respect. Ok /end rant! Here is what you need in your bathroom top shelfie:

Cleanser: At least 2 good quality cleansers. By this I mean, nothing with any SLS, something non-foaming and nourishing for your skin that won’t strip it e.g. a Cleansing Milk, a Balm, or a pre-cleanse oil (we love these, yes even for oily/combo skin types).
AM: cleanse once in the morning (there’s no makeup to remove – at least we hope not!!!) so once is sufficient. Massage the cleanser into your skin and remove with a hot flannel/wash cloth/ muslin cloth.
PM: assuming you’ve been out and about and wearing SPF, cleanse twice to ensure all makeup and gunk is effectively removed. I like to start with a pre-cleanse or a milky cleanser and then follow-up with a balm to give my face a good massage and some nourishment.
Product Recos: Aspect Purastat, CosMedix Purity Clean, or Purity Solution, Pai Camellia and Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser, MV Organics Gentle Cleanser

Exfoliator: A chemical exfoliator is your best bet. The exfoliators of old (referred to as manual exfoliation) had uneven shaped granules that ‘scrub’ the skin and you can often end up with inflammation or gauges into the skin layer. If it’s an apricot scrub from the supermarket, it’s defs best avoided! Here you want to balance your skin’s pH and prep it for the serious stuff (read more expensive serums that you’re going to apply next). What’s more, the exfoliation of the dead layers of skin will allow your product to penetrate so much better. Or in the case of the morning, give you an even surface and glow, even through your foundation.
Use both AM and PM.
Product Recos:
Lotion P50, Lotion P50W or Lotion P50V depending on your skintype – honestly, this cult product will change your life. Aspect Exfol-L or Fruit Enzyme Mask.

Serums: Ok so this is bringing out the big guns, if you’re going to splurge, do it here. Depending on your age and skin concern we could be talking a retinol product (for anti-ageing), a Vitamin B serum (for anti-bacterial or natural hydration properties), a skin lightening product (for pigmentation/freckle concerns) etc.
AM: all serums other than those containing retinol (makes your skin particularly sensitive to the sun). Also it’s a good idea to test that it’s not going to make your foundation/makeup ‘ball’ as that’s SUPER annoying.
PM: Layer whatever you think your skin needs/you’ve been prescribed from a professional. Make sure you allow the product to penetrate before layering the next serum.
Product Recos: Retinol – anything by CosMedix or Sunday Riley Luna, Vitamin B – Aspect B17, Skin Lightening – SkinMedica Lytera, or Cosmedix Simply Brilliant

Moisturiser: This is pretty much the last item in your routine. Reason being they’re generally more of an occlusive product, meaning they coat and cover your skin. Serums are WAY more important in terms of spend than a moisturiser, so don’t waste precious big bucks here!
Use both AM and PM
Product Recos:
I love CosmMedix Hydrate +, Aspect Photostat, or Aspect SMC for something a little more rich and luxurious (perfect for Winter). I also love the MV organics Rose Soothing and Protecting Moisturiser.

SPF: Yes we live in Australia people, and if you could see your skin under a Woods Lamp, anyone who frequented the beach in their youth would have a pink fit! So even in winter, please please please make sure you slap on your SPF.
AM only
Product Recos:
my absolute fav of all time, because it leaves NO white residue and smells divine, is the Aspect Envirostat SPF50. Have honestly never found another quite like it. Doesn’t make your makeup ball either. 3 ticks!

Eye Creams: Ok, ok so this can often be a contentious point and if you lucked out in the genetic lottery with dark circles, there’s not a lot that can be done with topicals. So if you’re under 40 I’m going to be bold here and say that you don’t need a separate eye cream. Just take your serums and moisturisers all the way up to underneath your eyes. If you’re an oldie like me then you do need some extra help.
Use both AM and PM
Product Recos:
CosMedix Opti Crystal, Cosmedix Eye Genius, Aspect Eyelift 3

*Disclaimer: whilst I do stock some of the products recommended, this is my own opinion, based on years of research. Am happy to recommend products that I don’t stock, and there’s no affiliation, just that I love the particular product and I know it works!

Ageing-face-changes

Hello lovely readers!

Hope you’re managing to stay rugged up, warm and cosy in this wintry weather.

One of the things I love to do in winter is have a hot bubble bath, put on an anti-ageing face mask, light a candle and relax. YUM!
If you’re anything like me, this skincare biz can become just a little bit addictive. Ooooh, maybe that brightening serum I keep seeing on all my fav beauty bloggers instagram is must have. Gaaah, what’s this about the Emma Hardie Amazing Face Balm. Must place an order for Cult Beauty for that….and so it goes…….sound familiar? It’s the never ending quest for the perfectly smooth, beautiful, youthful skin.

So imagine my horror when I read an article recently, Continue reading

Dinky INCI List

aspect INCI listing

Times they are a changing in this exciting new world of ours. Now that we have access to so much information at our fingertips we can research and become educated on so many things. It’s wonderful! And so, once we would blindly buy a skincare product because someone we know, or a celebrity sponsor told us it was the bees knees, now we’re a lot more likely to do our own research. And that’s a good thing.

Enter the INCI list. Pronounced INKY, in case you’re wondering. INCI stands for International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients. All cosmetic and cosmeceutical ingredient lists must use the INCI names for their ingredients. The rationale for this is to minimise the language barriers that can hinder understanding and make things misleading for us little ol’ consumers.
INCI ingredient names on product labels allow consumers to easily compare ingredients between multiple products, ensuring transparency in ingredient disclosure.

It may be a no brainer Continue reading

Now I know my ABC…..lalala!!!

ABC of Skincare

Hiya Lovely Peeps,

How nice is it to finally see the sun poke it’s head out? I know this is sad, but as a mum my first thought when I saw what a beautiful day today was forecast for was ‘oh goody, can’t wait to finally get through all my washing that’s piled up’. What has my life become?! Haha! I’m sure many of you can relate….

And then, just to feel the sun on my face and body is such an incredible boost for me. It makes my whole mood a lot sunnier. Anyhoo, I digress from the topic at hand. How well do you know your ABC of skincare?

Of course the ABC I’m referring to are the topical Vitamins A, B and C that all of us, over 30 should absolutely be incorporating into our daily home care regimes. Continue reading

The many faces of ‘corporate me’

Well hello out there!

So glad you’ve found our website and my little blog sending messages of light and love to the skincare world and hopefully yonder.
I’m SO excited to be here! You see, I’ve just taken a massive risk and left a relatively stable job in the corporate world of finance where I’ve worked for the past 26 years. Wow! Typing that felt insane. I can’t believe it was that long working in one industry.
To begin with I absolutely loved it.

I’ll start from the very beginning. I grew up in Newcastle, by the beach in Merewether. The youngest of 5 kids to my selfless, loving and hardworking parents (love you guys!!! Not that they’ll be reading this they’re so not into the whole social media scene – wrong generation). I had an idyllic, happy family life. By the time I finished senior high school I simply COULDN’T wait to Continue reading
